Starvoxel: Defender

Co-op strategy: protect one shared star

Each player holds a separate lane and board, but both lanes draw from one shared star. Here is a practical way to plan together, use merges carefully and learn from a tough run.

Starvoxel: Defender combines collectible-card deckbuilding, merge tower defense and auto-battler combat. In online Co-op, the team wins or loses together, so a strong plan covers both sides rather than chasing the biggest board on only one side.

1. Build two complementary decks

Each player brings a deck of eight different owned defenders. Before a run, compare the abilities you have chosen and talk through which threats each side is comfortable handling. Start with cards you understand rather than copying a lineup without knowing what it does.

2. Stabilize your lane before chasing a bigger merge

Two matching defenders at the same star level merge into the next star. Attack damage doubles at each merge, but attack speed does not. A higher-star defender can be valuable, but first check whether merging would leave your side short on board coverage.

3. Keep the shared star in view

The boards are separate, but the star is shared. A leak on either lane costs the team a heart. Check both sides when you have a moment, then use the next preparation window to discuss what caused the leak and what each deck can change.

4. Read the encounter and adapt

Bosses can bring shields and phase changes. Watch what the current encounter is doing, then adjust your placement and merge choices to answer that pressure. Do not assume one fixed deck or opening will solve every run.

5. Make one change at a time

After a difficult run, identify the problem you want to solve and change one card or one plan before trying again. That makes it easier to see whether the change helped. You can build and share an eight-card lineup with the free deck planner.

A quick team checklist

Before the run

Compare your eight-card decks and make sure you know the key abilities.

During the run

Watch the shared health and check both lanes before the next set of choices.

After a leak

Agree on one change to test rather than rebuilding everything at once.

Co-op questions

Do both players use the same board?

No. Each player manages a separate board and lane, while both protect one shared star.

Can I invite a friend?

Yes. Co-op supports friend invites and matchmaking. If a partner is not found, the game can fill the other seat with a clearly identified AI ally.

What does a shared deck code include?

It stores the eight selected cards in order. It does not include card ownership, levels, stars or equipped evolutions.
